What a easy grid is like
An Easy grid keeps between 40 and 47 of its 81 squares filled, and the generator will not publish one that needs anything harder than a hidden single to finish. In practice that means you can always find the next digit by looking at one row, one column or one box at a time — there is never a position where you have to hold two ideas at once. It is the right grade for learning where your eye should go, and the right grade for a few minutes on a train.

A grade is two constraints, checked together. Clue count alone is a poor signal — a 30-clue grid can be trivial — so the generator also solves every candidate puzzle with a technique ladder and re-digs anything that comes out easier or harder than this grade promises.
How to approach it
Work one digit at a time. Pick a number that already appears three or four times on the board and scan for the boxes it is missing from: the rows and columns it already occupies cross out most of the empty squares, and often only one is left standing.
You should rarely need pencil marks here. If you find yourself writing candidates into every square on an easy grid, you are probably scanning less than you could — try the digit-by-digit sweep first.

- Medium Sudoku — Fewer clues, and units you have to read as a whole.
- Hard Sudoku — Sparse. Expect to rule things out before anything falls.
- Expert Sudoku — Very sparse. Long chains, and notes close to essential.
